Tablets are the new wave of technology taking over the shopping arena. The infographic shows that a higher percentage of online shoppers are using tablets compared to typical laptop, desktops, and mobile phones. They are also spending more when checking out online on their tablets.

Stores need to recognize the importance of these consumers and create applications compatible for tablets so this group of shoppers can easily go to their website.

This weekend I attended the University of Texas’ Round up! There I saw many artists put shows on for crowds of neon and beer. One show in particular was Sam Adams, a college rapper who found publicity from his remake of “I Love College” from Asher Roth, a catchy tune renamed as “I Hate College”. Being named after a popular beer, this post about the beer itself is interesting to me. It is an app from the beer company wanting users to create their own beer and participate in a contest! This is a very interesting approach to have customers actually decide the hops, yeast, clarity, and everything else that makes a beer a beer and just for them! Sam Adams, the malt company, app is really creative and for that I give it kudos! I just wish I saw this before the deadline on February 5th.

Google+ is fairly new to the social media scene, yet they have already found difficulties finding adopters. This can be traced to the way users find and interact with friends. They are unable to search for friends through already popular platforms, and must instead solely use Google tools. Instead, they should allow their users to use apps connecting their tweets, pintrests posts, and facebook updates on their google account as well.

I have been brainstorming for new uses for social media platforms, and I think I have found something that would be very, very valuable for Google to have. I am just unsure how to get them my idea directly. Can anyone help?

By hiring a recruiter, you are introduced to people with digital media backgrounds suitable for your wants. There are a few things you should look for before hiring a recruiter to hire your social media guru though. Check their background of past recruitments. What social media talents do they find important? Where will they be searching for such a person? Can they look beyond the talent and find a person who will fit with the company?

After you have found the perfect recruiter, you must now educate them on what you want them to look for. They should have a history in this field already and should also be telling you what you should be looking for. With South by Southwest right around the corner, many are racing to make their schedules and RSVP to shows across town. Many visitors this year are newbies, giving Pinterest the opportunity to help in a new field. Pinterest is using their boards to showcase events happening in Austin.

Use Pinterest to discover new bands that have shows. Using the SXSW Music Parties Board, one will be introduced to numerous parties around town. Maybe you are more new to the scene than most, do you know where to start? Use the Professional Guide to SXSW. If you are entirely new to the Austin wierdness, you should definiely utilize the Austin board to learn all the quirky things we all have to offer!

This video by Alornmage focuses on his daughters rebellious attempt to call her parents out on forcing her to be their slave and her reaction, stop cleaning everything and flip sh*t if they ask for another cup of coffee. Alornmage’s daughter wrote this message on Facebook, much like how teenagers in other decades vented about the “man” and their parents verbally, on radio stations, and in whatever they found.

Alornmage’s reaction to his daughters letter is ridiculous. He definitely crossed the line when he shot the computer with his .45! He must understand that this is how teenagers release stress; if she actually wanted her parents to read that letter she would have shown them! Teenagers of the Netgen use the internet as their audience. Surprisingly, both Alornmage and his daughter use the internet as their audience instead of each other directly. I believe this is Alornmage teaching his daughter a lesson; that the internet is a public place and one’s problems between the family should not be broadcasted but taken care of one on one.

5 Predictions for Social Media Laws:

As I am sure you have heard, law enforcements have used Facebook and other social media sites to help with cases. However this raises privacy concerns of how your information can be used. One prediction is how the Right of Publicity will change this year. Not only is your information being used to close forensic investigations, but your ‘likes’ and such is advertised through social media in their sponsored stories. . This enforces how Word-of-Mouth and Friend’s opinions on products affects one’s decision on how they react to it.

Employers have also recently used social media to have an inside view on what their employee’s life’s are like and what they are saying about their job. Previously a boss felt they were allowed to fire an employee based on rude posts about the job, however, that is not the case now. The National Labor Relations Board has stood behind these previous employees making them win their cases using Federal Labor Laws. One can now seek comfort in posting, again, whatever malicious things they have to say about their life(job included) online. The Net Generation has used their expected “freedom” like older generations did when they complained about work verbally to their cohorts and family, however now the NetGeners are easily called out and heard.

Another law that is underway are Standard Privacy Rules for social media sites to use for the next 20 years. This way, we as the users are not constantly tricked into agreeing to new terms because they are constantly changed.

As I stated earlier, courts are using social media sites to verify alibis, background checks if your on jury duty, and they even use them if the case is as distant as a lawsuit between the company you work for and another. So keep your profile clean!!

The biggest issue involving social media sites deals with schools, where those affected are children who are not yet protected by the First Amendment: Freedom of Speech. When I was in high school, some girls on my cheerleading squad created a fake profile that posted secrets not only about the girls on the squad, but eventually the majority of the student population. This issue grew from just a problem between my squad to dealing with the principle. It felt like we were on “Pretty Little Liars” because someone knew all of our secrets. This issue is not like employees and employers, because those people are venting about their work, not ratting other children out. The Net Generation children need a lesson in what is appropriate for online sharing.
